REMINDER - APMSA Annual General Meeting
The next AGM will be held on the 5th of March 2010. There has been a few exciting events in the last six months and we expect that a few more will happen in the near future. It is mission critical for the association to have your input and participation in the APMSA. If you feel that you could contribute to the board or in any other way, please make yourself available. Come and be part of the PM future!

IPMA RMB Seminar

The IPMA Research Management Board “Festival of Knowledge” seminar series kicks off this year on 9-10 March in Pinelands, Cape Town. Several international speakers from the UK and Germany will be presenting papers on the subject “Program Management in the New Economy Environment”.

APMSA Workshops
 Social media and business networks
An international expert in Social media and Business networks (Web networks) are visiting South Africa in March. A one day workshop will be conducted on the 23 March – venue to be announced closer to the time. Using Social Media to Build Effective Networks in Business, Education and Government Communities The best way for organizations to understand the power of social media is to build a network and actually use it. Some of the topics this workshop will address are defining social networking, value-add of social networks to projects, the role of networks in project communication independent of the workplace etc. Should you be interested to attain more information or to attend the workshop, please email Tembie by the 16th March at Tembie@whp.co.za to book your place. Cost is R200 for APMSA members and R300 for non-members.

 Scheduling using Critical Chain
The Critical Chain method of scheduling is not so well understood and used. However, whereas the critical path method encompasses assumptions, the critical chain is a much more realistic tool to use. Come and join us for this workshop to get new insights and understanding about a more realistic scheduling method.
The workshop will be held mid April – date and venue to be announced closer to the time.

IPMA visit & Assessor’s workshop
Former IPMA president, Assessor for GPM (German PM Association) and APMSA-SERT Assessor, Klaus Pannenbaecker, paid us a visit in January to validate APMSA activities and assist with the development of a unique, South African product.
The Assessor workshop was attended by people from other professional bodies, from academic institutions, industry and consultants. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss best practices and to exchange experiences between the various parties to build common understanding.

IPMA news
The next IPMA Council of Delegates (COD) meeting will be held in the Netherlands at the end of March. The IPMA World Congress will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 1-3 November 2010. The theme is “Challenges & Opportunities”. Visit the website at www.ipma2010.com for more information.

PRINCE 2- IPMA Agreement
APM Group in the UK and IPMA has a bilateral agreement, acknowledging each other’s products. IPMA will acknowledge PRINCE 2 Practitioners as level D competent persons subject to an additional exam. It is now possible for PRINCE 2 Practitioners to enhance their PM knowledge and understanding and earn an IPMA level D certificate within the PRINCE 2 environment.

APMSA Service to industry
APMSA holds from time to time, information sessions to inform employees of large organizations about the APMSA activities to develop professional Project Management. Professional PM is required on an ever increasing scale to run and grow organizations and businesses. Project management performance is also now a focus point in the presidency. Project success Assurance takes us beyond excellence.
Some of the Da Vinci students and Eskom management was addressed at the information session.

APMSA invited to SAPCI
APMSA was recently invited to address the Southern African Project Controls Institute. We are hopeful that we could have closer collaboration and work alongside with them in a positive way, sharing knowledge and experiences in the future.
A Project Support Services academic body of Knowledge is being considered at some learning institutions.

Certification Developments
Certification round dates
The next certification round will start on the 8th April 2010. APMSA members qualify for a discount for both training & certification. Please view the discount structure for members on the website under PM Training. The certification round are designed in both 6 and 12 monthly cycles to allow candidates a flexible study programme.
The certification rounds have been designed to accommodate candidates who wish to attend training prior to certification or alternatively, for candidates who wish to only certify.

New Discount structure for APMSA members
A new Discount structure for both training & certification is now available for APMSA members. The longer the period of APMSA membership, the bigger the discount!

Evaluation Product suitable for companies or individuals
APMSA was recently asked to do an evaluation on 22 Project Managers of a multi-national company. The company wants to invest further in human capital but wants to have confirmation that they are investing in the people with the right potential for PM. APMSA now offers a service to companies to companies that wish to invest in training project and programme managers but who are unsure who should be included in the investment. The Evaluation also gives useful information about the Permanent- and Project Organisations.

Courses and accreditation for TSP
APMSA Lecture and workshop material for level D is considered at NQF6 in terms of the new NQF scales. One popular PM University is now in the process of aligning their course curriculum with the IPMA Competency Framework. This will ensure that a person could get a qualification from the University/ Training Service Provider (e.g. degree) together with an IPMA certification at level, after completing the behavioural assessment additional for certification.
